Cuckoo Callay, Newtown

I've seen so many instagram posts of this place but I had just assumed that it was in some far off place with a massive walk since I don't know the Newtown area very well. The best part about this place is that it is literally right in front of Newtown train station.  Convenient location with good food. What more could you ask for?

Iced Coffee- $5 To start off, I order an Iced Coffee. It comes in mason jar with a generous scoop of ice cream floating above the coffee. You definitely need to let the ice cream melt a bit before you can get the real taste of the Iced Coffee. Decent price for a decent amount of coffee. 

#Hashtag Browns 3.0- $18

The Hashtag Browns was definitely something I wanted to try because it had such a quirky and interesting name. The basil and cheese croquettes were were very crispy whilst the inside was very smooth. You can choose between cured salmon, grilled haloumi or bacon as apart of this dish. I just couldn't resist picking the cured salmon and I must say it was a very good choice. The salmon was fresh and melted in my mouth. The marinated avocado was really interesting, both sweet and sour...I don't really know how to describe it but it complimented everything so well. To top it all off, there is a beautifully poached egg. I am definitely coming back here for this dish. 

Cinderella's Breakfast- $18

My friend loved this dish so much. I got to sample a bit of the pumpkin fritters and I must say that they were amazing and just look at that glorious egg. It was beautiful when it was cut into. 

The staff were very friendly and made the experience even better. I didn't really get to look in the interior since we chose to sit on the outside tables since it was a nice and sunny day. There were cute little plants on every table, a very nice touch and the utensils came in a food can. It doesn't sound that visually pleasing when I put it like that, but trust me, it fit the whole theme pretty well. I really enjoyed my time here so definitely check Cuckoo Callay out if you're ever in Newtown!
